    The N4A range of Programmable AC Power Sources provide breakthrough low distortion performance previously unseen from a “Switched Topology” Source, the\n implementation of a proprietary “6 legged output stage” effectively creates a very high switching frequency for waveform construction – thus providing\n lower distortion. The N4A offers the unique ability to generate both high frequency power waveforms up to 1kHz as well as low frequency power waveforms\n down to 0.01Hz. This feature enables the engineer to simulate low frequency power devices such as wind turbines with very low fundamental frequencies.\n Up until now, switching topologies have suffered from higher distortion levels than that of the more established Linear approach. The introduction\n of the N4A power sources signifies a new chapter in low distortion AC Power Source technology.

    The N4A AC power sources feature an extremely flexible waveform generator capable of mathematical waveform generation, data point waveform upload and many\n sequencing functions. Traditionally, switching topologies have struggled to provide total harmonic distortion (THD) figures below 2%.     High Performance Compact Power Analyzer

    The PPA1500 Power Analyzer offers higher performance than its sibling – the PPA500 unit, the PPA1500 series ensures that N4L power analyzers provide\n the optimum solution in almost any power measurement application and budget. The main differences between the PPA500 and PPA1500 Power Analyzers\n are that the PPA1500 features a 1Mhz Bandwidth and full graphical display, this includes harmonic bar graphs and graphical data logging. The PPA1500\n Power Analyzers now features sophisticated parallel digital filtering algorithms enabling the PPA1500 to be used in various Pulse Width Modulated\n applications. While being only half rack width and 2U high, the PPA1500 is available in 1, 2 or 3 phase configurations and offers a level of performance\n normally found only in larger and more costly instruments. With modes such as “Inrush Current and “Standby Power”, the PPA1500 provides fast, accurate\n and easy measurements in challenging environments. The PPA1500 series analyzers now have a 6 Phase 2U Rack option in which two PPA1530 units are\n installed on the same rack side by side, see our accessories page for more details.     All PPA1500 units are supplied with UKAS ISO17025 certification as standard, this is performed at N4L in the UK in our accredited ISO17025 Laboratory.

    ISO17025 Calibration and Verification

    Every PPA1500 Power Analyzer supplied by N4L is provided with both a UKAS Accredited calibration certificate up to 850Hz, as well as a UKAS Traceable\n calibration certificate up to 1MHz. N4L have developed a number of bespoke power calibrators in order to verify the accuracy of every power analyzer\n supplied over its entire frequency range, this is surprisingly uncommon within the instrumentation industry. Furthermore, development of an\n ISO17025 (UKAS) accredited Closed Loop Calorimeter in partnership with Oxford University (UK) has verified the performance of the N4L custom\n designed power calibration rigs with a very low uncertainty level, providing absolute confidence that the wide band performance of all N4L\n power analyzers is market leading.

Primarily aimed toward\n applications that require precision measurement without complex features, the PPA500 series is ideally suited to a production or test environment.\n The unit benefits from a full colour TFT display that provides greater flexibility than fixed numeric displays and combines a level of performance,\n ease of use and value beyond any comparable product. Sharing many of the techniques utilised in the PPA1500 series, the PPA500 achieves a level\n of performance previously available only in much more costly instruments, while maintaining the intuitive operation and clarity of measurement\n presentation for which the PPA series has become renowned.     Demystifying SFRA\n

    \n

    The Sweep Frequency Response Analyzer simply injects a range of frequencies into a winding of a power transformer, when the power transformer is built\n correctly with no imperfections and faults the frequency response (of Gain Vs Frequency) plot of that particular type of transformer and winding\n on that particular transformer should exhibit a particular shape, this “shape” then becomes the transformers “fingerprint”.

    Over the course of the transformers lifetime this “fingerprint” can be used in order to detect degradation of the transformer.

    When is SFRA performed?
